How to Clean Engineered Wood Flooring Without Damaging the Finish

Knowing how to clean engineered wood flooring properly preserves the factory finish and prevents swelling. Follow these rules:

1Daily:

Use a soft-bristle broom or a dry microfiber dust mop. Dust and grit act like sandpaper underfoot.

2Weekly:

Damp-mop with a well-wrung microfiber pad. Use a cleaner specifically labeled for polyurethane-finished wood (e.g., Bona, Method Squirt + Mop). Spray onto the pad, never directly onto the floor.

3.Never use:

– Steam mops (heat and moisture penetrate micro-cracks)

– Vinegar or ammonia (they dull aluminum oxide finishes)

– Soap-based detergents (leave residue that attracts dirt)

– Wet mops or dripping water (causes edge swell)

4.For spills:

Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. For sticky residues like wine or juice, use a slightly damp cloth with a drop of wood floor cleaner, then dry immediately.

Pro tip:Put felt pads under furniture and area rugs in high-traffic zones. Refresh finish every 3–5 years with a rejuvenator, not sanding.
